Woodworking a jewelry box may seem intimidating, but these woodworking plans are simple and detailed enough for even a novice woodworker to get good-looking results.

In addition to the jewelry box, I include elegant music box plans and poker box plans as free additions so you can really get your money's worth for years to come.

What Makes an Outstanding Jewelry Box?

There is a lot of hype and not much definition in today's marketplace about quality. Quality itself has become a hollow word, slapped on everything in order to sell. Quality in woodworking comes from the care and attention paid to joinery techniques and to the overall efficient use of space and materials.

The woodworking jewelry box, music box, and poker box plans are so simple, any woodworker at any level of skill and experience can build it in just a couple of weekends. The outside of the jewelry box is 10 1/2" long x 7 1/2" wide x 3" tall. Woodworking plans for jewelry boxes will work with any good quality hardwood. Because I had it in my shop, I used Walnut for the jewelry box shown here, but feel free to substitute your favorite hardwood.

The Design

Woodworking plans for jewelry boxes should offer both natural beauty and efficient use. These two qualities are like wings of a bird, if one is "broken", the piece will not "fly".

The inlay cavity for necklaces saves space. The velvet-covered dense foam provides excellent storage for rings and earrings while supporting the music movement cover. The thinner velvet-covered dense foam allows for pierced earrings, bracelets, or other items while offering additional interior support.

You could use partitions to divide the jewelry compartment if you want to get a little fancier. You should be aware that does require more work for a woodworking jewelry box.

The optional music box plans add a nice "note" either for your own enjoyment or as a gift. Should you choose this option, the wind-up key is on the underside of the box. Two screws hold the music movement tight to the bottom, which cuts down on vibration and helps with both sound quality and clarity.

The music box plans include a glass cover that fits in a groove near the top of the pieces. This keeps out dust and allows a visual of the movement in operation.

These music box plans use the world famous Reuge 30-note Swiss music movements. They usually retail for around $425. However, I have an Economy Special - add only $45 + a little extra shipping to the plans price. This includes the Wire Stopper and wind-up key.
"Happy Birthday" is the more popular music movements, and I have only one available. Let me know if you have an interest in adding a great music movement to highlight your jewelry box.

The brass stopper rod is a 5/32" brass rod cut to size. You'll need to drill a hole to attach the wire stopper.

It is best to use a tablesaw for the miter joints and a slot cutter on a router table to make the groove for the bottom.
The hardest part of creating this jewelry or poker box is gluing the miter joints. I discovered a good solution for that - an innovative "web" clamping system included with the plans.

The Poker Box Plans use different dimensions and inserts than the jewelry box. However, the construction is so similar I decided to include these plans as a bonus.
