What Makes an Exceptional Jewelry Box?

There is a lot of hype about quality in today's marketplace. The word Quality itself has become very hollow. It is slapped on everything in order to sell. Quality in woodworking comes from care and attention to joinery techniques and to the efficient use of space and materials.

Woodworking Jewelry Box Plans, along with the music box and poker box plans, are so easy any woodworker can build either in just a couple of weekends. The outside dimensions of the jewelry box are 10 1/2" long x 7 1/2" wide x 3" tall.
Woodworking Jewelry Box Plans will work with any good quality hardwood. I used Walnut for this jewelry box, because I had it in my shop. However, you can use your favorite hardwood.

Woodworking Jewelry Box Plans - The Concept

Woodworking Jewelry Box Plans should offer both natural beauty and efficient use. These two qualities are like wings of a bird, if one is "broken", the piece will not "fly".

The inlay cavity for necklaces saves space. The velvet-covered dense foam provides excellent storage for rings and earrings while supporting the music movement cover. The thinner velvet-covered dense foam allows for pierced earrings, bracelets, or other items while providing additional interior support.

The music box plans add a nice "note" for the one you love. When you use this option, the wind-up key is on the underside of the box. Two screws hold the music movement tight to the bottom. This cuts down on vibration and helps with both sound quality and clarity.
In addition, a glass cover keeps out dust, and you can see the operation of the movement. The glass cover fits in a groove near the top of the enclosure.

These music box plans can use nearly any music movement. However, I prefer the world famous Reuge 36-note (or 30-note) Swiss music movements.
The brass stopper rod is a 5/32" brass rod cut to size. You will drill a hole to attach the wire stopper, which is explained in the plans.

It is best to use a tablesaw for the miter joints and a router table to make the groove for the bottom.
The hardest part of creating this jewelry or poker box is gluing the miter joints. I discovered a good solution for that - a novel "web" clamping system included with the plans.

The Poker Box Plans use different dimensions and inserts than the Woodworking Jewelry Box Plans. However, the construction is so similar I decided to include these plans as a bonus.
